It is the definition of a 7/10 strategy JRPG – or even lower if you do not vibe with nihilistic story and the characters.
The gameplay is repetitive and while it is an RTS, it requires you to pause too frequently to enjoy it in this genre. The upgrades and the inventory are underwhelming. I still enjoyed my time with it but it is definitely undercooked and imperfect.
Director: Caleb Phillips
Released: 2026
A great directorial debut in the horror genre!
A married couple with a baby moves to suburbs. One day, their baby son vanishes – supposedly kidnapped. Somehow, the mother finds him in a mysterious cave in the nearby forest all safe and sound. However, the father does not believe this is their son at all.
An excellent thriller full of attention to details and twists. I will be definitely on the lookout for this director.
Director: Nicolas Winding Refn
Released: 2026
Before I saw the film at EIFF 2026, I heard that it has been a huge flop at Cannes and that people absolutely HATED it. Now that I’ve seen it myself – Mr Refn, get behind me, I am your strongest soldier.
A hypnotic neon thriller with (possibly) supernatural twist with influences of Refn’s bestie Hideo Kojima as well as David Lynch.
The story plays on two parallel fields. In one, Elle (Sophie Thatcher) is an actress pulled into psychosexual “threesome” between her own father and his new mistress (and her best friend) Dominique. In parallel, we follow the story of Private Kay, an American soldier stationed in Japan who is looking for his kidnapped daughter and tries to get a revenge on human traffickers.
The key to understanding the story is to realise it is an abstract film about incestuous sexual abuse. Whether you will interpret some themes as supernatural or multiple personality disorder, it is up to you but as soon as you realise it is about girls’ sexual abuse, everything just clicks. Even the title then makes complete sense!!!
Director: Carlos Conceição

An investigative journalist tries to uncover the underground bodyhacking surgery community while falling in love with ballerina tight in their grasp.
A visceral body horror about plastic surgery that doesn’t quite hit. The dreamlike atmosphere and visuals strike an interesting balance between my favourite media: NBC Hannibal and American Mary. However, the plot and character study did not connect with me, unfortunately becoming a scrambled mess. Not enough psycho, a little too sexual for no comprehensive reason. A shame because I desperately wanted to like this one!
Director: Paul Wright

A restaurant worker suffering from suicidal depression decides to give himself a week long change to find a will to live.
My favourite premiere at the EIFF 2026. The film begins as a nihilistic all-or-nothing journey and becomes as a visceral representation of severe depression and helplessness that feels so real and tangible I almost felt triggered. The visual mental detachment with VHS footage and trying to find the reason to continue living, mixed with the excellent performance of George MacKay creates an unforgettable film.
Director: Takashi Miike
Released: 2001
Watched the 4k restoration at EIFF 2026.
An extremely dark and twisted comedy on a dysfunctional family going through situations of abuse, sexual deviancy and absurdity while visited by a mysterious visitor nicknamed Q.
Holy fuck, what did I watch LMAO. Just every trigger warnings under the sun: murder, rape, violence, incest sex, lactation (?), necrophilia, coprophilia… Jesus Christ. Watching this in a small cinema with other people was a wild ride. Funny as heck, halfway through the ridiculousness was through the roof and the whole room was laughing hard. Extreme in every way: extremely funny AND disgusting. Absurdist ero-guro at its best.
Director: Simon Ryninks
Released: 2026
A Welsh comedy about a teenager trying to save her father abducted by aliens while working at the secret military site.
A very lighthearted 90s growing-up story with an obvious “twist” but still a very enjoyable watch.
Michael Sheen read the script with an alien esoteric weed hobo and was like “where do I sign”! Aneurin Barnard was fucking hilarious.
Director: Hirokazu Koreeda
Released: 2026
Parents of a child killed in an accident get an android who looks and behaves just like him.
Somehow, this totally psychotic trope that fully pulls from recent conversations on AI and LLMs, resulted in a wholesome film watching experience. It pays off to understand some very basic buddhism and Shinto teachings to not revolt at the idea itself.
“Revived” dead souls need to depart no matter what.
Director: Tyler-Marie Evans
Released: 2026
Two runaway teenagers dream of becoming actresses following the footsteps of old Hollywood stars, but what awaits them is the trap of prostitution and abuse.
Extremely doomed codependent toxic yuri but according to the directory it’s about “female friendship” – gods save us from friends like this. A dreamlike vibe of Mullholand Drive mixed with Showgirls, excellent cinematography and music. In the era of technology, the idea of chasing the glittering glamour of old Hollywood through in-person sex work seems like an abstract horror fairytale than a cautious documentary.
Director: Ollie Gardner, Jake Harvey
Released: 2026
A reckless youngster breaks his bestie bro out of hospice for the last night hurray.
How do we move on when our loved ones are to die in suffering? A heartwarming study of grieving while they’re still alive and trying to cope with it in (un)healthy ways.
Fuck cancer.
Director: Louis Paxton
Released: 2026
Two emotionally stunted siblings live stranded on a remote Scottish island until a council worker visits them to organise their relocation. Domhnall Gleeson was so fucking funny in ways I wasn’t expecting. A DnD wizard that writes LOTR x Alien fanfics wasn’t on my bingo this year.
(The romance was bleh but the ending somehow worked!)
Developer: Hakababunko

Someone sure loved Mr Robot on the dev team. Amazing pixel art, visual novel with a great over-arching twist.
Director: Christopher Nolan

Nolan does it again, somehow this old ass tale is as relevant as ever. Are we the baddies?
Developer: IO Interactive

I can’t believe we got the young Bond that is true to its origins but is not cringe, sexist or too ridiculous. Patrick Gibson as Bond is such a menace troublemaker, hacking printers and throwing hands rated E for Everyone.
Director: John Maybury
Released: 1998
A Silent Hill-esque queer horror story with emotional luggage of a toxic (co)dependency. Daniel suffered so deliciously on screen, but hooo boi it was depressing as heck.
Director: David Fincher
Released: 2011
May be one of my favourite Fincher’s films ever. Visceral, violent and haunting. Daniel and Rooney are both so good *chef’s kiss*

An extremely well-designed top-tier shmup. Like with every roguelike, I burned-out after 30-40 hours but I had so so much fun!
Director: David Frankel

A middle finger to AI and the decline of humanity in art. Fun! Miranda and Andy should just make out.
Director: Jim Sheridan
Released: 2011
A psychological thriller that, while predictable, was a poignant musing on sudden grief. Daniel is very remake!James-Sunderland-coded, his suffering was palpable on screen. Also, no wonder Rachel and Daniel got married after this one!!!
Developer: Grasshopper Manufacture, EA
Released: 2011
Hardware: Playstation 3
An interesting Suda 51 flick with RE4 combat from Shinji Mikami. Unfortunately, it’s held back by unpolished combat and tedious boss fights. A little disappointed 🙁
Director: Rian Johnson
Released: 2025
This film was like a crack cocaine for my 00Q brainrot. The funniest Benoit Blanc has been yet.
Director: Rian Johnson

Benoit Blanc at his queerest yet, playing amogus in a bathtub and stirring shit among rich bitches. Entertaining!
Developer: Treyarch, Activision

I played it all in ONE sitting, had more fun than I expected from an FPS game developed in 9 months. Somehow charming??
Developer: Bizarre Creations

A proper missing link between QoS and Skyfall. A fun Arkham-like shooting flick with hysterically funny voice acting.
Developer: Capcom
Released: 2005
An excellent psychosexual horror with stalking mechanics. Hewie best boy!
Director: Marc Forster
Released: 2008
After 20 years, definitely the most underrated film from Craig’s saga. The Act II of Casino Royale with Bond’s cold rage and a scarily relevant plot for today.
Developer: Capcom
Released: 2026
Hardware: Playstation 5
Can’t believe Capcom made me LOVE a child character in a video game. Cried like a bitch. Puzzle FPS is amazing.
Director: Eric Kripke
Released: 2024
The reality caught up with the fiction faster than A-Train with Hughie’s girlfriend. Still entertaining but depressive how it made me feel with Trump shitshow happening IRL.
Director: Matthew Vaughn

Bond producers saw Craig’s blue eyes and said: get this dude 3-films contract ASAP. Super fun, Ben Whishaw at his most waif(u)ish.

Ryan Gosling and Rocky. Amaze. Amaze. Amaze.

Rewatching yet again; There is truly nothing more beautiful than a handsome rough man dealing with his mortality and depression; Judi Dench is THE Bond Girl.
